A little nest building

Great Blue Heron carrying nesting materials.

Photo taken at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve, Chilliwack, BC.  There is a colony of Great Blue Heron there with over 100 nests.

Into personal space

This little rabbit stayed perfectly still; truly believing that I couldn’t see it.  This is so close that I had to back off slowly to about 30 feet, put an extension tube onto my 100-400 lens (so if would be able to focus on a subject so close), and move back in.  I took this photo and moved slowly away.  It continued to sit right there as I left.  This was in rattlesnake country – it doesn’t look promising for this little fella’.

A summer favourite

Cow moose resurfacing with feed from the lake bottom.

Quetico Provincial Park is a little slice of heaven.

Located in western Ontario, it is a canoeist’s paradise. This cow moose dove, swam and fed in front of us for quite some time. She acknowledged our presence and kept her space but seemed to feel comfortable with Sarah and I there.

Moments like these – you never forget.

Should I stay or should I go

Favourite Image of 2009

The choice wasn’t easy for me but it ended up being boiled down to an experience. This past summer I spent an evening with a herd of free ranging bison on the prairies. Those moments will forever be etched in my memory. Rutting, noisy bulls, cautious cows – dusty – beautiful.

Grasslands National Park – Saskatchewan. If you get the chance, go.
